"Well fine have it your way then. I don't care if she doesn't realize that life isn't always easy." The ginger tom snarled. The ginger tom glanced over to Petal and said, "You can't always depend on something to take care of you." He hissed, while his eyes showed a bit of warning as if he cared about what would happen to the apprentice. But that vanished instantly.

He's right. Petal couldn't shut off that voice in her head. Stand up for yourself, weakling, it told her. Life is hard and you're not tough enough. She couldn't shut it off, so what else could she do but obey it? Her eyes narrowed, and their edge of innocence vanished for a moment, replaced by anger. She didn't want to be talked about as if she wasn't here - or worse, as if she were cowering from Solarclaw. I cower from no cat. From now on, I will never hide behind anyone. Her resolution was furious as she promised herself the impossible. "If you don't believe in my ability to be a loyal RogueClanner, why don't you leave? You don't have to stay here - go." Her words were a snarl, and she did not think at all. She felt no fear because of the adrenaline that seared through her veins, forcing her judgment to flee her system. Rash, impulsive - call it what you will, Petal was not standing for Solarclaw one minute longer.

Libido The lean warrior’s eyes widened as their apprentice boldly defended herself. Libido backed up a few kittensteps behind her. Petal, apparently, was going to hold her own with the fierce Solarclaw. His muscles rippled under his brown pelt as he tensed, ready to spring into action if need be. RogueClanners might be in a Clan, but they were still rogues, unpredictable and usually short-tempered. They were no force to be reckoned with. Libido felt the marshlands’ ground ooze in-between his toes under his shifted weight, honestly, did Solarclaw have to pick the dirtiest of all places in RogueClan to train?

Petal's words made him furious. " First of all, I won't leave because I am loyal to RougeClan even after I die. Second of all, I will make sure that RogueClan will be the strongest clan that will ever roam the forest. Until that day comes I am stuck here training you." The RogueClan tom hissed. Inside his head Solarclaw knew what he was going to do with Petal now.

Even after he died? Did that mean that Solarclaw believed in StarClan? That was irrelevant. Now that Petal was calming down, she realized what a huge mistake she had made. There was no way she could fight this warrior, and there was a strong possibility that Libido would want to see if she could continue her fierce mask. Petal knew, though, that the worst thing she could do would be back down now. Her blazing eyes let in a trickle of fear, but she held strong. "If you train me well, I will add to the strength of RogueClan. Fight me now, and you will loose yet another valuable member to the Clan you so love. If that is the path you want, I will fight you." Her words were rushed, and she didn't try to hide that she would loose if the two fought. Both knew that. But Petal promised herself that she would fight anyway, even with the dread that filled her body.

Libido Libido’s face was calm and collected as he quietly surveyed the two from behind his apprentice. His brown tail swished from side to side, listening to the younger cat. A sudden realization rippled through him like wind brushing across his fur. In an instant he stepped forward until he was a mouse-length away from the second mentor. No. He meowed sternly to Petal, keeping his gaze locked on Solarclaw. The young tom didn’t once glance down at the she-cat beside him. You will not be fighting Solarclaw, and he will not have the sick superiority to fight you. Libido said. His voice contained no anger, no concern; there was just odd neutrality to it. He wasn’t going to allow a mentor to fight his own apprentice, there was nothing right about it.

Solarclaw opened his mouth and meowed, " This time I am not going to fight you, Petal. What you say is true and I will in the future trust you more as an apprentince." What he said was neither the truth nor a lie. His tone was almost the same as Libido's but different. Solarclaw's neck fur lied flat and he gave his chest fur a few licks then went back to look at Petal and Libido.

Petal knew she would have to get used to this kind of eerie scene, but the tones of her mentors sent a shiver down her spine. In her mother's cave, emotions were not hidden or stifled. Arguments were fierce and all-out, or drenched with motherly love. There was never any real coldness within the family, and visitors were chased out if they showed signs of hostility. This was truly and completely different, but Petal made her best effort to hide her confusion. She nodded her head to both her mentors. The fierceness drain from her eyes, and she looked expectantly from one to the other. What would they do now?

Libido The dark, russet-furred tom cast a swift warning glance to the ginger mentor before he finally let his eyes drift to their apprentice. Libido twitched his whiskers at the confused look in her eyes, what was she so puzzled about? He shook his head briskly and his olive pools returned to Solarclaw. Is that all the training we should do today? Libido meowed. He was ready to get home to camp, maybe pick up some fresh-kill on the way there. Solarclaw and Petal’s disagreement had been completely unnecessary and time-consuming. I’m sure it’s been a long day for all of us. The warrior insisted, his gaze floating toward the glowing ball of orange in the sky; time ticking closer to sundown. Libido would’ve preferred the group to get to camp before the gunk on his paws started to dry on.

"Fine then. We will continue this lesson tommorow. Lets go back to camp now." The RogueCLan tom ordered. He went back, collecting the prey he caught earlier during the lesson. He went back to the camp with the frog that he caught, hanging limp from from his jaws.

Petal was disappointed. Even though one of her mentors hated her, she wanted to train. She did not complain - that was one way she would certainly provoke Solarclaw even more. Keep your mouth shut, she told herself wisely. She held her tail high with dignity as she nodded to both her mentors. "We could meet at sunrise," she recommended, trying to make the training as soon as it could be. She simply couldn't wait to learn more, even if it involved fighting with Solarclaw for hours. She followed Libido, a sparkle in her yellow eye.
