Nakoma was a rather cat-like ferret, sleek and silent like a feline. Her insatiable curiosity made her careless like a gambler, but she knew well enough what was good for her. Whenever something scared her (which didn't happen very often), Nakoma would rush for cover, as quick and soundless as a mouse. Most of the time, her prying led to good-for-nothing junk and trash. However, there was one item that caught the young ferret's interest.
On a particularly sunny noon, a racket began to echo in the tranquil woods. Naturally, Nakoma's friend, Skooma, detected the sound.
“Nakoma, I think I hear something, but I can't quite say what it is,” informed the rabbit.
“Let's go find out whatever it is,” said the white ferret.
When they reached the location of the object, the noise was louder, though slightly muffled. An item rested on the forest floor, a dull light glowing from the top. Coming out of it were two lines with small, round cones at the end that seemed to be the root of the racket.
“Let me see it,” insisted the ferret.
Nakoma picked up a round cone and pressed the flat end against her nose and ear. The sound seemed to deafen her, and it reeked of human earwax.
“Argh! It's absolutely disgusting! A human's been wearing this in his ear! How awful,” she shouted.
“What should we do with it, my inquisitive friend?”
“Um. . . let's just bury it. Hopefully, it won't bother any other animal living here,” responded Nakoma.
The duo dug the hard yet damp dirt with the ferret doing most of the work. Rabbits can't really dig that well, so Skooma resorted to whistling tunes and discussing what he had for breakfast. Finally, the hole was finished, and they shoved the awkward gadget into the ditch, glad to be rid of it. Exhausted, Nakoma took a break while the rabbit slammed the dirt into the hole, making a mess out of his pristine pearl coating. After it was filled, the duo hopped and padded away, trying their best to forget that horrid discovery.
