Kristina was stowing away on a ship bound for Arotoga, Marola . She has a jewel hilted dagger which she had pick pocketed from a merchant be for she left Ero. She wasn’t really a human. She is a half elf the only way you would know she wasn’t human is that she has slightly pointed ears. That is why she never puts her hair up. Only really good friends know the secret. But most of them don’t believe it even when she told them.
She was going to Arotoga to join a band of the best warriors to help kill a dragon who had complete control over many villages who have sworn complete loyalty to the dragon. Kristina will be needed because she is a skilled warrior, she is a great thief, and she can talk to all living things.
Meanwhile in Arotoga a young boy of 18 was wandering the streets with his dog. The dog puts his nose in the air and bounded of in the direction of the dock. Suddenly the boy heard an angry shout from where his dog had went. Then has dog came bounding to him with a sausage link in his mouth. The he saw an angry butcher coming with his knife held high yelling every swear word he knew. He let the boy go this once.
Kristina saw the shore and dock approaching. Then she saw an eager boy standing at the pier. He had a dog with a sausage link in his mouth. When the ship reached the shore Kristina leaped off the ship. Then she went over to the boy and started to talk to him.
“Hi,” she said, “I’m Kristina. What’s your name?” “I’m Kean” the boy whispered very faintly.
Then a voice came from in the crowd and said “All people in the band of warriors come to the town center!”
“I got to go” Kristina said over her shoulder as she ran into the crowd. “Wait,” Kean called, “I want to come with you!” “Go with me?”
Kean nodded, a grin smothered on his face.
“On a dangerous mission to kill a demon-possessed dragon and the man controlling him?”
He, again, nodded. “That’s what I said.”
Kristina cocked her head. “Really?”
No answer. Kean was still smiling.
“Okay, I’ll go see if you can come.”
Soon the water was sloshing underneath the curved, polished mahogany of the ship, the Marola flag raised high. Kristina pranced giddily along, while Kean awkwardly shuffled forward, afraid that he might sink the boat if he shifted his weight.
“’Ello! Why, if it isn’t the young lady! I sure ‘oped that I would meet ya! And who is this? Ah! The boy companion who just signed on! What’s the name, lad?”
“I’m Kean.” He was surprised by the thick accent.
“I’m Kristina.”
“Well, I already knew your name, Kristina! Why, you’re the first female e’er to set foot on a boat to go destroy something. I’m the first mate, ______________, and I’m glad to welcome you onto this wonderful ship, The Marooner. Kristina, you’ve got a stateroom down that corridor. Kean, you’ve got a cabin right next to ‘er’s. If ya e’er feel up to some practicing just tell the cap’an. He’ll teach ya a thing ‘r’ two.
The first mate had a strong, sturdy build. His black eyes pierced whatever he was looking at. You wouldn’t want to be on that man’s bad side. But someone else on the ship was bigger than him. When Kristina stepped over the threshold, she almost shrieked in horror. The biggest man she’d ever seen was towering over her. It was the Captain.
