Moonwhisker padded along the border that divided WindClan from ThunderClan. The WindClan cat tasted the air, looking around warily. He had been out of camp since sunrise... knowing he should get back to camp, he snagged a rabbit and started home. When he arrived in camp, set his rabbit in the fresh-kill pile, and came to the enterance of the warriors den, the sun was setting. ''I've been out for a while.'' he thought. Moonwhisker didn't even bother to drop by the medicine cats den.
He went straight to his nest and curled up with his tail over his nose. Soon he was fast asleep.
When he awoke, he was no longer in the warriors den. He was in a forest, but certainly not anywhere on ThunderClan territory. Then, so suddenly that he couldn't fight back, Moonwhisker was knocked off his paws. He battered with his hind paws, trying to get this cat off of him. It felt like his paws were going straight through the intruder. In fact, that was sort of what was happening. The weight was lifted off of him, and the cat that had ambushed him now stood before him. It had starshine in it's fur, yet Moonwhisker did not recognize it. Then, the cat spoke. ''Hello, Moonwhisker.'' Moonwhisker jumped back. How did this cat know him? The cat continued. ''Do not be afraid of me. I have come to you for a reason. You are dreaming, Moonwhisker, but what I have to say is more real then you could ever imagine. My name is Sand, and I am not from StarClan, but I need you to listen. I must tell you of your destiny.'' Moonwhisker stared at the cat called Sand. Should he believe this odd cat? What kind of destiny could he possibly have, besides being a loyal WindClan warrior? Sand spoke again. ''Are you willing to listen? Do you choose to hear what I have to say?'' Moonwhisker thought for a moment. He had nothing better to do. This cat was odd... maybe he should listen, but maybe not. Either way, it was just a dream, right? What could happen?
''Ok, say what you wish to say.'' Sand gazed at Moonwhisker, watching the young warrior with eyes that have seen more than the sun.'' Alright, I spoke of your destiny. I suppose I should start from the beggining. Go on, make yourself comfortable.''
Moonwhisker obeyed, laying down in the soft grass. Sand sat, looking again at the young warrior.
''Long ago,'' he began,''When I was young, I lived as a rogue. I had heard of cats that lived out in the wild, and I listened to stories that other rogues told of run-ins with the cats.'' The pale gray cat's fur gleamed as he spoke. ''I had always thought of what it would be like living in a clan. One day, I decided to try it.
I slid into the forest at dawn, and I was ambushed by WindClan, warriors like yourself.''
I did not step down. I did not run, like the cowards I had heard the clan stories from. I did not back down.
The warriors had no choice but to take me to their leader. With great diffuculty and argueing, I got what I wanted. I was accepted into WindClan.
I lived as a warrior for many moons, but then one day a great battle broke out. I was one of the last surviving cats.
Two nights after the battle, our medicine cat recieved a message from StarClan. It said that a kit would be born in twenty-two moons time. This kit would have white fur with gray streaks. That kit would save us all.''
Moonwhisker gaped at Sand. He was the kit, cat now, and he knew.
''So... what am I supposed to save us from?'' he asked.
''You must find that out for yourself.'' Sand replied.
Moonwhisker couldn't believe this. He knew Sand was speaking the truth, but Moonwhisker thought this truth was the craziest truth he had ever heard.
''Ok...so what am I supposed to do? When do I know it's my time?
''You will know. Now I must go''
''No!''Moonwhisker tried to protest, but the old cat was gone.
Moonwhisker jerked out of sleep to find himself back in the warriors den. He knew of his destiny now. He had to take Sand seriously. Moonwhisker crawled out of the den and walked across the clearing. It was extremly cloudy. He made his way to the fresh-kill pile and selected a small rabbit. After gulping it down, he walked out of camp and onto the moor. Moonwhisker shivered at what Sand had said.
''That kit would save us all.''
Should I write a sequel?
