Foxpaw waited there, in the clearing of Tallpines, waiting for her mentor Cheetahspirit. She felt bad for her brother Sparrowpaw, who's mentor had disappeared and was no where to be found. Luckily, her mentor wasn't gone like her Leader, Father and brother's mentor. She climbed up one of the pine trees, partly to see if her mentor was coming and partly to scare her mentor and show her how good of a Warrior she could become.

The black and silver spotted pelt of Cheetahspirit flashed through the trees of the forest. She was trotting at a steady pace toward Tallpines to meet with her apprentice, Foxpaw. She was mentally thinking of what she'd teach for the day. It was natural to start with learning how to hunt, she'd decided. That way, the apprentice could go on hunting expeditions for the elders and such. Plus, it just seemed the most natural thing to learn first. The warrior nodded to herself and scanned the area in front of her with her bright green eyes. Foxpaw wasn't anywhere to be seen, but her smell lingered on the air, so Cheetahspirit assumed she was hiding. With a grin, the young mentor padded the rest of the way into the clearing and sat down, her back to the freshest scent of her apprentice. Then she curled her tail around her paws and looked around. She remained tense, however, listening for any sound of Foxpaw...

Foxpaw, almost at once, saw her mentor. She quietly climbed down the tree and then with her playfull battle cry, she leaped toward her mentor, claws sheathed as she out streatched her paws to Cheetahspirit. She hoped to land on her mentor, but when she had cryed out, she knew that it was probably to late to think that she would catch her mentor like a mouse.

With a smile at the apprentice's shriek, Cheetahspirit twirled around and watched the young cat fly past (If that's okay), flicking her with her tail as she did. Thinking of when Cheetahspirit herself had first tried to sneak up on her mentor made the warrior smile again. She had been sneaking toward her mentor and just leaped when the older cat had turned around, quick as lightning, and leaped for her instead, pinning her down. Blinking and coming back to the present, Cheetahspirit looked at Foxpaw and padded toward her. "It was a pleasant idea, attacking your mentor to get out of a lesson," She teased. "But not this time. Would you like to hear what you did wrong, so you can fix it next time?" She sat down next to her apprentice, glancing at the early morning sunshine as it slanted through the tree boughs. The light was pale, but still warm-looking, and Cheetahspirit found it hard to believe the snow she smelled in the cold air would come later.

[/b] She meowed, looking over to her mentor. She wanted to make sure, so then she really could try it again.[/ul][/size]

Cheetahspirit dipped her head in a nod. "Precisely. While a good battle yowl is very useful in creating fear in an opponent, make sure it's not given too soon." She was pleased her apprentice had already figured out her mistake without help. The black and silver warrior curled her tail over her front paws. "But we'll get to fighting skills later in training. It's best to start with learning to hunt. Our instincts naturally help us catch prey, but honing your skill can only make you better. So tell me," Cheetahspirit went on, whiskers twitching with the chill breeze, "Why is hunting different for each type of prey?"
