Eaglepaw glowed with pride from the tip of his nose to the very end of his tail. Could you show me how to turn? he asked struggling to get his maw above the water so he could actually speak to his mentor.

The she-cat responded easily; she was used to swimming and breathing, if not the talking aspect. "Just go on instinct. Let your tail do the guiding, just like when you jump."

Eaglepaw was awed by the fact that swimming only really required perfect balance, he also felt connected to his eldest RiverClan ancestors that bred the best adapted clan for swimming. He did as his mentor told and pretended that he was jumping and used his tail. Look Dawnstorm! I'm turning! he announced excitedly.

Dawnstorm once more surprised herself: A laugh of exhilaration, joy, and pride shook her, her amber eyes lighting with the fun of it. "Good job!" she purred, turning to match Eaglepaw's stroke. "Do you want to travel downriver, back to the shallow place? We can splash around and stuff if you want. Remember, swimming with the current is like running down a hill. It is easy, but if you go too fast you'll loose control. So regulate your pace."

Eaglepaw nodded as best he could and used his new-found turning skills to face the place they had started at. He paddled at a leisurely pace and now became aware of the strong current beneath the surface of the water, That must have been what made it so hard to come back up. he thought but never the less kept to his task.

"You're a natural!" Dawnstorm praised. She was amazed at herself, actually talking without nervous pauses and growing wish to run away. She was being outgoing, and a good mentor.

ooc: Srry I took so long! I'm at this really long over-night camp and they finally gave us some free time and I found the computer lab without getting lost! YAY!
IC: Eaglepaw's paws finally touched the sandy bottom of the shallow place and slowly placed his weight on them. He was so happy that he couldn't help but blurt, What's next?!

Dawnstorm's uncharacteristic smile widened. "Now we try fishing?" she asked. Her eyes shone with almost as much joy as Eaglepaw seemed to be radiating. She hadn't done a bad job! He had learned to swim! He was enjoying himself! She was enjoying herself!

Eaglepaw couldn't help but purr at the idea of catching himself a meal- he could feel his stomach gurgling in delight at this idea.

Dawnstorm flicked her tail for Eaglepaw to copy her as she crouched by the edge of the water. Her eyes narrowing to see in, she readied her paw to dart out, claws sliding from their sheathes.

Eaglepaw watched his mentor intensely, readying himself in somewhat the same position. He glanced over at her again to make sure that he didn't miss anything. Ididn't know I could be such a perfectionist! >.< he thought as he felt the need to even watch the miniscule twitching of his mentors' muscles.

Dawnstorm purred with amusement and her apprentice seemed to aim for perfection. "It's alright if you're not in the exact same position as I am, after all, all cats perfect their own fishing. Watch the water for fish. It's hard to see them, but if you look very closely, you can." Dawnstorm still felt the thrill of hearing herself talk, teach. Fearlessly speaking. Wow, it was amazing. She gazed into the watery depths, awaiting the ripple of life that meant a little fish was heading their way. It began to swim toward Eaglepaw, and Dawnstorm called out, her tone a whisper: "Eaglepaw, fish! Get ready!"
