Emberpaw was sitting on a log. Her blue eyes were calm and peaceful. She was waiting for her mentor.

Cinderheart padded up, brainstorming about what she would teach her apprentice on this day. Maybe explore and quiz her on herbs? Or a bit of essential warrior stuff? She slipped through a patch of ferns, and saw her apprentice on a log. She padded up, and mewed a short, "Good morning," to the serene Emberpaw.

"Oh!" meowed Emberpaw, surprised. She slipped off the log, and stood by her mentor, feeling rather stupid that she was caught off guard.
"What...are we going to do today?"

OOC: btw, Emberpaw might be MC sooner than you think. Just a heads up...
Cinderheart smiled kindly, in a 'I'm laughing with you' kind of way. "We're going to learn a bit about self-defence. Most medicine cats learn what they really need to know from experiance, and watching. But what that doesn't help with is when, on occasion, you need to defend yourself. So I'm going to attack you, and you have to defend yourself. No claws, of course." She lept at her apprentice, aiming to bat her on the head with soft paws. It was a predictable move, and purposefully so.

Emberpaw leaped backwards, and a bit to the side, so she wouldn't hit the log. She was watching Cinderheart carefully, trying to predict her next move, and a way to counter it, and fight back.
Unlike most medicine cat apprentices, Emberpaw wasn't really peaceful and un-warrior like. She was just insanely curious, and had to know about everything, and being a medicine cat appentice was the only thing that satisfied her so far.

Cinderheart sat and side-tracked for a second. "Now, lets say that a warrior came to you who had been hit on the head like I would've if you hadn't dodged. Only there were scratches, not too deep, only slightly bleeding. What do you do?"

OOC - I'm sooo guessing
Emberpaw looked uncertain. She didn't have much training as a medicine cat yet.
"Ummm, stop the bleeding? But only if you had to. I mean, if it was a battle you might need cobwebs for something worse. Oh, and give them something for a concusion. I don't know what herb that'd be....."
She trailed off, blinking her eyes in confision and anger that she didn't know what to do.

Cinderheart smiled. "You could use Feverfew, if they complain of head pains. But, from what you said, I'm sure you'd try your best even if you didn't know exactly what to use."

Emberpaw was even more confused.
"But trying your best won't help anycat if you don't know the right herbs...." she meowed.

"There is more to being a medicine cat than herbs and berries. If you have enough will to save a cat, StarClan is able to guide your paws to the correct mixtures. If you try your hardest, there is much more of a chance that you will be able to do something." As she spoke of StarClan, she looked up at the sky, which was bright with the mid-morning sun.

Emberpaw brightened up.
"So that must be how cats figured out what herbs were best in the first place." she meowed, pleased.

"Exactly," purred Cinderheart. "I think you will make a great medicine cat one day."

Emberpaw turned her head away, embarrssed.
"Cinderheart...shouldn't we....I don't know, work on something?" she meowed uncertainly.

"Sure. We were doing... fighting, right. Okay, so I'll attack you again."
She dived left, and then went right, a move that she had seen many warriors make. She didn't pull it off too well, but well enough to give Emberpaw an idea of what it was like to be attacked by some cat who actually could fight.

Emberpaw served out of the way, and swung her paw at the last second. It hit slight below Cinderheart's ear, but Emberpaw was unbalanced, and only scambled a few tail lenghs away.
