Shadowstorm picked silently through the springy undergrowth of the Tallpines. He stayed low to the ground, there being little to hide his massive size, although it didn't matter, because the shadows of twilight kept him well hidden. He was stalking a chaffinch hopping merrily through the trees, quite unaware that it would be shortly meeting its death. Suddenly it stopped, pricking it's head into the air. Taking this as his signal, Shadowstorm pounced. He caught the terrified creature in his claws, and then tossed it into the air. It flapped it's wings wilidly, spinning haphazardly into the air, but Shadowstorm siezed it by it's feathers and forced it to the ground. There it sat, dazed for a moment, before trying to fly again. But this time, tired of his game, Shadowstorm killed the creature with a bite to the neck.

Shadethorn thought wordlessly, Why am I trespassing? He licked his hind leg; for some reason it had been quite sore for the past few days. Shadethorn’s gray optics gazed over the land ahead of him. He was getting dizzy; all these trees were distracting him. Looking back at his hind leg again he saw to fang marks embedded into his limb. I was bitten by an adder! When did this happen? When I was asleep? He thought. Shadethorn was getting dizzy again. What was he to do? Just sit there and wait for the venom to engulf him?

Shadowstorm heard the scufflings of another prey and he lifted his head and sniffed the air, but it was the mixed scent of adder and ShadowClan. It didn't seem to be moving, but he approached with caution, wondering why a ShadowClan warrior was on ThunderClan territory, why an adder was so far from Snakerocks, and why the warrior wasn't running from either the adder or his approaching scent. When he found the source of the scent, however, he found a black warrior simply lying in a heap, puncture marks in his leg where fangs had pierced them. He simply stood there, dumbfounded for a moment, a silent battle between loyalty to his Clan and loyalty to the warrior code. Here was a cat from an enemy Clan, completely at his mercy! But he couldn't just let him die, could he? In pondering this, he didn't even catch the scent of a certain she-cat close by.
Tango watched the scene from behind a tree. However, unlike Shadowstorm, there was no battle raging in her head. She stared down upon the tom in cold indifference. She had never seen nor scented the tom in her life, but it was surely his own clumsy fault that he got bitten by an adder. And of course the other tom, a gray one, was just standing there, neither doing anything to help the black tom's cause nor moving on, and being completely unuseful, as all toms are. She continued to watch in disdain and some amusement, not making her presence known.
Meanwhile, Shadowstorm had come to a decision. He darted forward, nudging the tom. Hey, wake up! he said, at a loss of what to say or do. He was now aware of Tango's presence, but he was not focusing enough to actually register yet another enemy lurking behind him.

Shadethorn saw something; it was a large black cat. Far larger then him; he backed away at first, but it seemed to be calling to him. He stepped forward; it had a wonderful scent, the true being of the wild. Then it happened; the large black cat grabbed Shadethorn on the hind leg, piercing his limb with two puncture wounds. The creature seemed to swallow up him into darkness, everything turned black, he felt weak and unable to move. It’s emerald orbs glowed with cruelty. They disappeared and he was consumed into the shadows…
Shadethorn jolted awake. A dream? he thought out loud. Feeling he was being watched upon; he staggered to his feet. Seeing a dark figure he closed his eyes, but nothing happened. He opened them slowly. Where am I? he asked the cat. He was frightened by the nightmare. |

Hey, Shadowstorm said. Can you walk? His head was spinning with questions. Would they be able to get to camp in time? Would Cinderheart be there? What would the Clan think if he had brought back a ShadowClan warrior? What if he couldn't walk? He remained focused on the cat, but his mind was clouded with fear.

Shadethorn stood. He wasn't all the way coordinated, but he could walk. Yeah. I can walk. he mewed. How could you be so weak?! a voice inside his head screamed. Shadethorn shook it away. |

Good, said Shadowstorm, relieved. You've been bitten by an adder. We're going to go to Cinderheart; she'll know what to do. He moved towards the cat, supporting him with his shoulder and began to lead him in the direction of camp.

Shadethorn backed away from the tom. I don't need a Thunderclan cats help. he hissed. He wasn't going with any cat. I already knew I was bitten by an adder. he added. Shadethron didn't want his help, it was just an adder bite after all. He could handle it.

At this, Tango could be silent no longer. You're very stupid, aren't you? she said scathingly. If you knew you were bitten, then you were sure not doing anything to help yourself. If you don't let him help you, you'll die on ThunderClan terriroy. If for no other reason, let him help you so you don't die with that shame on your back.
Shadowstorm snapped his head around at the she-cat. He wasn't entirely surprised to see her, as he had been absent-mindedly aware of her presence before. She's right, he said. He was angry about her crack about dying on ThunderClan territory, but he knew it was purely to get this other cat to move.
